Janel’s First Writing Prompt: New beginnings

Janel Gradowski will be sharing her writing prompts with Inky Fresh readers on alternating Fridays. Check back on Sunday for Janel’s interview with Bridgid, where she shares her thoughts on the importance of taking risks and her secret to making sharing work less scary.
The gray, brown and white of winter here in Michigan gets depressing. I am bored with the dirty snow (snirt) and mud patchwork on my lawn. The bright green leaves, gauzy flowers and warm sunshine of spring can’t get here soon enough! I am looking forward to seeing green grass, buds beading up on the tree branches and tender shoots pushing up through the earth. Here is a prompt in honor of the upcoming seasonal change.
You moved into a new house in the dead of winter. It’s spring and the flowerbeds are coming alive. However, there is something rising from the soil that you’ve never seen before. Is a strange plant or something else coming alive? Will you pull it out like a rogue weed or let it grow?
We would love to see your work! If you use this prompt to write a story and have posted it to your blog or it has been published, please leave a link to it in the comments.

Janel, I will come up with a flash fiction piece with regards to the prompt and post it somewhere for all to see. Should be interesting to say the least. Haven’t done fiction in some time now.

John – I can’t wait to see it! Will it involve reptiles? Maybe?

[...] Janel Gradowski is a writing prompt aficionado and the latest addition to Inky Fresh Press. In the midst of chaos at home and a blogging hiatus, Janel was kind enough to share her thoughts on the importance of taking risks and the reason why writers need to get serious. Be sure to give Janel a warm welcome! (You can show your appreciation by sharing your response to her first writing prompt.) [...]
