Webby Tips for Writers #8: Network with Goodreads

Posted by on | October 8, 2010 | No Comments |

This month we’re celebrating you, our fearless readers, by offering 30 days of reading, writing and networking tips. On October 31st we’ll conclude the festivities by giving one lucky reader a copy of the 2011 Writer’s Market and a goodie bag. Learn how to enter here.

Tip #8: Use Goodreads to Network

Almost a year ago, I decided to join Goodreads to keep track of what I read. Since then, I’ve used the site to connect with agents, other writers, editors and authors. It’s like a secret (and much more fun) networking site and one I highly recommend.

5 Ways You Can Use Goodreads to Network

  1. Link your profile to your blog or website to gather readers.
  2. Use your email contacts to find Goodreads members you already know. (This is a part of the registration process. Current members should get the option to add email contacts when they log in.)
  3. Join a group in your genre to meet readers and writers.
  4. Add your favorite authors (an option on your profile page) to keep track of their events and connect with other fans.
  5. Find events in your area using Goodreads event listings, or list your own, such as blog giveaways or writing group meetings.

Are you already Goodreads member? (Feel free to link to your account!) If you are a member, do you use the site to network?

If not, do you have a similar site you would recommend?
