Tip #19: Read Elizabeth Spann Craig’s Blog
Mystery author Elizabeth Spann Craig (who also writes as Riley Adams) blogs regularly at Mystery Writing is Murder. I’m not a Mystery writer, but I find her blogs one of the most useful to read.
On Mystery Writing is Murder, Elizabeth posts on the writing process and encourages lively conversations from her readers. She also has one of the most comprehensive Twitter roundups I’ve seen. Here’s a snippet from one of her recent posts, on how writing about a character’s “ordinary day” can help our readers get to know them:
So much of our energy as a writer is poured (and rightly so) into the conflict the protagonist is facing and how they handle it. How can we best fit in the tidbits about the character—the non-conflict-related stuff that makes us love them?
